How exciting! I've been chosen by Influenster to receive the beauty blog VoxBox! I'm so excited, y'all. :)
Have you heard of Influenster? I signed up a while ago but the site was confusing and I had NO idea what I was doing, so I sort of let it sit there and gather dust. BUT, they've relaunched the site and made it a TON easier to figure out what in the heck is up. When I signed on, I was really impressed! If you're on Influenster already, you should sign back in and look at the new site. If you're not, WHY? Let me know if you'd like an invite!
And...I'm a little ways into to my new skincare/anti-aging stuff. I've found a couple of things that I really like and one thing that is UGH...so awful. Wanna hear about them? Probably not, but I'm gonna tell you anyway.
What I love:
Mario Badescu cleanser, toner, mask and exfoliator. I received some really generous samples from them with a whole regimen based on a questionnaire that I filled out on their site. I'm really a fan of the cleanser they sent. It is the Seaweed Cleansing soap. It smells great, is really gentle and doesn't dry out my face. The Aloe Vera Lotion/Toner is amazing! I usually don't use toner because it tends to burn my face and make it all dry and yuck. But this one doesn't. LOVE it! The mask and exfoliator I received is great too. I'm sort of meh about their eye cream I was sent and the bee pollen night cream smells FANTASTIC but it kind of makes me feel a little greasy. The day cream they sent smells alright, but doesn't make me feel greasy and wears pretty well under makeup.
What I HATE:
RoC 4-Zone Daily Moisturizer. Holy crap. It feels like I've got a heavy mask on my face when I use this. I think I'm going to try to mixing it with some other carrier lotion to make it less heavy because I'm cheap and I didn't buy it at a store that would let me return it. It seriously feels gross.
I've also received another Beauty Box...this one from Beauty Bar-Sample Society. But I'll make a different blog for that. AND I should receive my ipsy/MyGlam bag soon as well as my TOTALLY underwhelming (again) Birchbox.
Thanks for stopping by! And if you'd like to have an invite to Influenster, let me know!

I got my first subscription box!
I got it the other day! I wasn't sure I was going to share it...but meh...might as well!
I was so so so excited about joining Birchbox and getting some awesome samples and product to try out and see if it worked for me. BUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT...my first box was. . .well, it was not good. Bleh. Meh. Feh. Not impressed! I'm giving them one more month and if they don't find some decent shit to send out, they're cancelled! Ugh.
Here is what my box contained:
(Stock photo)
Kate Spade New York Twirl Perfume--Sample size is the equivalent to one that you'd pick up at Sephora or the like for FREE. Plus it smells kinda teenybopper-ey. Not for me. I'll add it to the pile of other sample perfumes I've picked up.
Twistband Hair Tie--Have super-short hair. No need at all for hair ties. Headband would have been nice. Plus? They didn't even finish the edges of the hair tie so it was already fraying when it arrived. Crap.
tili Bag--This. This is crap. Pure crap. It is a decorated ziploc bag...but it isn't even a good zipper top one. Nope, this craptacular bag is a pinch to close. I've put it in my daughter's diaper bag for when we have a diaper change and I can't immediately throw away the soiled diaper.
Wei to Go Sleep Over Kit--or as I like to call it, your One-Night-Stand-Walk-Of-Shame kit. This actually isn't that bad. Too bad it is such a minuscule sample. 2 eency foil pouches of the oil based cleanser and 1 still-eency-but-not-as-eency foil pouch of a tinted moisturizer. But, I would like more than just a foil pouch of something I can pick up at Sephora for free.
21 Drops Aromatherapy Blend--Again, not terrible. I like the smell of the aromatherapy oil. But I can't tell a difference in focus (the scent I received) when using it. It just smells pleasant.
Birchbox and Color Club Custom Nailpolish--color is okay. It's a dark gray...like wet cement. I don't hate it but the formula is kind of crap and chipped on the second day of wearing it.
So I emailed them. I let them know it wasn't to my liking. I let them know I was disappointed. I got an email back that told me to try changing around things in my profile. Soooooooooooo, I checked my profile and nowhere on there does it say, "JENNIFER LOVES GETTING CRAP." No where did I see a box to click to tell them I was not accepting junk. So I "tweaked" my profile. But honestly, I saw what the other people got, too and it wasn't impressive so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Okay, alright...
Why did I start this blog?
Partly because I wanted somewhere to keep all my links and blogs that I like to read. I used to use Google Reader back in the day, before that Bloglines. But those made me lazy and I never really read anything. It was dumb.
Second part(ly) is because I have neglected my looks for too long. I used to really work at my hair, skin, makeup but somewhere along the way I got lazy (do you see a theme here? hmm?)
Background of my laziness
One day, I cut my hair off in one of those styles that never has to be fixed. Just wake up, spritz some water on it and run a comb through it. It went through several different lengths from below shoulder to super-short again. I'm more of a short hair girl. I like it short, it fits my fat face. Some people think fat faces can't do short hair, but it works for me. Long hair just makes my pointy chin and nose more pointy.
I'm also lazy about getting my hair colored. I have had gray hair since I was a child. Grays here and there and everywhere. I also have a cool (maybe not) white splotch of hair above my right eye. If I don't color my hair, I look awfully old and witch-like...especially with the pointy chin and pointy nose. :\
Somewhere along the way, I fell off taking care of my skin. I had some problem skin my 20s. Zit city. It was awful and it wasn't 'til I moved to Arizona that it cleared up. I live in California now and I guess this weather is good for my skin, too. When I gave up my skin care, I didn't notice how quickly I aged. Now I have small lines appearing on my eyes and a nice fat crease on my forehead. That one gets to me.
And when I gave up skin care, I also got lazy about makeup. Don't get me wrong, I still bought makeup and I still wear it, but I could do better. It is what it is there.
So there it is, innerwebs.
What I'm doing now
Recently I've started looking around and getting info and signing up for places like Birchbox, MyGlam/Ipsy, Beauty Bar Sample Society. Getting out there and trying things that I've not heard of or used before will help me make some decisions on what to use or what I need.
I recently did a big purge of pretty much everything in my bathroom. Soaps, cleaners, toners, moisturizers, creams, serums, etc all went in the garbage. I'm starting over. Starting anew. Awakening after all this time of neglecting my self. We'll see how it goes. :)
